Following a jawline reduction surgery, you can expect a moderate degree of swelling and bruising in the neck and jaw area, which will peak 2-3 days after surgery and should dissipate within the next 2-4 weeks. You will be given a prescription mouthwash to use several times a day in order to keep the incision sites clean and prevent infection. Many patients find softer foods (i.e. pudding, soup, applesauce) the easiest to eat during the first few days after the procedure, and most patients are able to resume their normal daily activities after approximately one week; however, you should avoid strenuous physical exertion for at least 4-6 weeks after surgery. Although you will notice initial improvements in the appearance of your facial structure as swelling begins to subside, it may take 4-6 weeks for the final results and improved contour to become fully visible.
